Nearly $10 Billion in Mobile Ad Spend for 2013

HAIR

eMarketer has released a new market forecast which shows that mobile advertising will end 2013 at about $9.6 Billion for the year.  That is almost double the $4.36 billion in 2012.  This is just the latest in series of reports from a variety of different sources that show this dramatic growth in the mobile advertising industry.

A lot of this money is going to the major advertising providers such as Facebook, Twitter and Google.  They have all released innovative new mobile ad options over the past year, and that is clearly bringing in a lot of money.  Many smaller companies are also getting in on the action, however.

Mobile marketing growth is outpacing all other digital marketing, though it still lags behind the $33 billion spent on PC based advertisements.  Growth on traditional PC advertising, however, is only going up by about .4%.  Over time, it seems likely that the mobile marketing dollars will overtake traditional digital advertising.  eMarketer expects this will happen around 2016 or 2017, where they forecast mobile marketing will be pulling in around $35.6 billion.

It is really undeniable that mobile marketing is one of the most significant areas in marketing today.  One question marketers may be asking, however, is what the next big advertising move will be.  Mobile marketing is now well established, and PC digital marketing is coming up on its peak.  Given the rapid change in the online environment, it seems likely that a new innovative advertising option may come up in the near future.  Of course, this is just speculation at this point, but certainly something marketers and businesses should be on the lookout for.
