People Like Bing More Than Google?

Bing recently chose a very interesting way of figuring out just how relevant they are in the world of search engines. It was also a decent way of promoting their search engine, especially since the results of their little test came out in their favor. Since Bing came to be, a lot of people have still chosen Google to fulfill their search engine needs. Google seems to have been around since the very beginning of the internet, so people have become quite comfortable with the company, but Bing has a lot to offer that many people have given themselves a chance to recognize.
Bing, having quite a bit of confidence in their search engine, put themselves right up against the biggest name in search engines, testing just who can give people the better results. The conducted a test with 1,000 search engine users over the age of 18, asking them to type the same search query into both Google and Bing and see which results they preferred. After fives searches, the respondents were asked to average out the results from each search, and find which search engine they seemed to prefer. Basically, Bing made these people that were surveyed prove that internet users were not giving Bing the chance that it deserved.
When the results were tallied, the outcome was clear – people chose Bing web search results over Google nearly 2:1 in the blind comparison tests. Specifically, of the nearly 1000 participants: 57.4% chose Bing more often, 30.2% chose Google more often; 12.4 % resulted in a draw.
Bing then wrote in their blog post,
Why did we think a blind comparison test of the pure web search results would be valuable? Because it is the best way to really test the quality of web search results where the majority of clicks occur – without the influence of the ingrained, habitual impact of the Google brand. Now you know there is a better alternative to Google.
This test seems like one of the best decisions that Bing has made, especially since the results are already being spewed all over Twitter. Bing will absolutely be seeing more traffic to their search engine due to this test. It was a form of proof to the public, as well as a way to market their search engine. Somebody over at the Bing headquarters has some great ideas.
The study was not conducted by Bing, but it was conducted by an independent research company called Answers Research for Bing’s benefit. This study just shows that people should start using Bing, and that Google, though it may seem like some sort of internet overlord, may not have all the answers, or the best ones. With 2 to 1 results in the test, it is clear that Bing brings something to the table, and a bit more focus should be put on the company. Who knows; they may just end up with the same or better results than Google’s search engine someday.

Bing is so much better than Google…because my sites rank higher there than on Google
I haven’t given Bing a shot since close to day one. Maybe I should try it again just to see, even if I don’t buy into things like this because who’s to say they didn’t do the test 10 times and 9 times Google won so they never released it…
I visited their blog because this article did not make it clear whether the survey participants were old which queries to search for or if they chose (they chose). The most revealing thing on their blog though is that they apparently don’t know the difference between a square and a circle… Check the bottom of the page, right above the screenshots.
The recent Google changes have probably made the company less popular among several online marketers and it possible that these marketers will look for other solutions, like for instance Bing.

I haven’t tried Bing , but I am willing give it a try. I mostly use Google out of habit. While Bing might have better search results (according to this study), 1,000 people is hardly a significant test group to represent internet users. 1,000 people compared to the actual number of internet users would be like .oooo1%. There are literally billions of internet users.
You can actually try this test live on this site: http://www.bingiton.com/Landingpage.aspx?form=&publ=&crea=
I preformed the test and I liked Bing over Google 3-1-draw. I had my wife do the test and she liked it 4-1. I even clicked on the search results to view the top few pages. It was very surprising to me. I thought for sure Google was better, so did my wife.
It is just like Pepsi. Blind taste tests prove Pepsi is better than Coke. This is repeated over and over. Yet people still like their coke. When Coke had ‘white’ cans over the holidays, people in my office threw a fit. The power of branding.
I did that test. It was mostly a draw with a slight edge toward Google. With more ordinary search terms I’m sure it’d lean much more toward Google. I’ll stick with Google and Coke.
Jack and Pepsi just doesn’t have the same ring to it… same with vodka and monster. Branding can be an incredible beast!

I do NOT NOT NOT NOT like BING … … and, other I have spoken with feel the same. Who authors this type search?
Yes, Google results are more and more stuffed with multiple pages from a few big sites. For travel queries, impossible not to get dozens of pages from Tripadvisor (often totally irrelevant pages) in the first ten results pages; and lots more from other mega travel sites. Sometimes, you even get all ten results on a page being virtually identical tripadvisor pages, the first from tripadvisor.com, then the next from tripadvisor.ca, then tripadvisor.co.uk, then same again but appearing as a page from tripadvisor.sg, then as tripadvisor.au etc.
This is an abysmally poor search experience, and if G continues along these lines, then the highway is open to Bing and Yahoo
i like google NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT BING IS LAME
