Steve Howe Beats a Fraudster
Written by Pace LattinJune 29, 2012 # 10:16 am # Marketing Insights, Specials # 34 Comments
Steve Howe is the CEO and genius behind Convert2Media, one of those affiliate CPA networks that everyone is always talking about. He’s also known for having a pretty good pro-compliance team that has a special bullshit detector that keeps all the fake affiliates out of his network. He also loves recording phone calls he has with frausters and exposing the techniques they use to attempt to get into his network. This is one crazy CEO with a great sense of humor and style all his own.

Haha wow, that was something else…
Entertaining nonetheless!
Affiliate Marketing fraudsters? This chick sounds like she’s on pot. Why the hell all the questions. Hmmmm
“making a mockery out of me…” no, she did it all herself.

Great, exactly how we want to see CEO’s of networks spending their time.
Go Brother, have fun at the expense of fraudsters. They steal so why not Crank Yank them.

That was pretty funny. That was a very pathetic attempt by a fraudster…but what a good EPC damn!!!

Bing.com? Never heard of it
Classic.
Anyway steve has been doing this for years, check out this video, it’s my favorite though it’s 2 years old. SE ZERO ftw
That was great. Being 55 years old I watched the internet grow up and I am amazed at how many crooks there are out there now.
When I first started AOL’s web search was the place to be seen, there was no Google and SEO was putting the most repeats of a word on a page.
Things have sure changed!
Great Video Steve. Keep posting them.
Is this the same Convert2Media that had a class action lawsuit filed against it back in late 2011? If so, anybody know the outcome of that lawsuit? Oddly, I can’t find anything about it mentioned on PeformInsder. Maybe it was dismissed quickly?

Also, the person named in the legal document you posted is no longer with Convert2Media. If you have any further questions feel free to call me 800-689-1260!
Yeh. I was wondering about that as well.

He now is at RevivedMedia.net and IMGrind.com
Pretty funny. I will say this though, Steve and their team sometimes don’t do enough checking before making accusations. For example, when I was first starting out I joined C2M, got in just fine because I was legit (although clueless as I was a total newbie just getting started). But several weeks later I get an urgent phone call/message from Steve to call him back. I called him back and he essentially ran me through the same process and accusing me of being a scammer (I hadn’t even ran traffic to them yet). Turns out he saw some web script I was using (from PPCcoach which was totally legit by the way) and he just assumed I was a scammer.
I explained the whole thing to him and he realized he was in the wrong but didn’t apologize or anything. Just said basically “Oh, OK, well that’s all I need” -CLICK-.
I get there are a ton of scammers out there from these chinese companies, but maybe they should be a little more careful. Needless to say I never ran traffic to them because of that incident. I do quite well now so it cost them a lot of money because they made an assumption without doing their homework.
Hey Mike,
No apology? Well my bad, here it is: “Sorry Bro, just keeping you on your toes!”
Now, let’s make some money together!
Steve
Appreciate it : )
This guy knows that not every domain on a server belongs to one person right? Not everyone uses a private server
That’s true, but the fewer domains there are on an ip the more likely they are either owned or controlled by the same person or connected in some way.
From a fraud protection standpoint it makes sense to go by the odds like that.

Yes but the domain was less than 1 year old and the WHOIS is what belonged to Lilly Wang 3 months prior. Yes, I am well aware that domains are all not on private servers.
You have to put it in context, too. The person didn’t seem to know what EPC was. They didn’t know their affiliate company was located in Germany, etc, etc.
The domains on that IP have an odd whois history and name server history – almost makes me wonder if they intentially dropped them and picked them back up again to force a reset of the creation date.

I should say:
1. They either pretended not to know where the conversionads site was hosted.
2. Or they are just a paid middleman/woman.

Classic! Need a contest for this shit on PerformInsider
Very interesting read! Fraudsters suck!
Very good stuff thank you for sharing!
Lol funny read. What about some more?
Steve Howe Strikes Again!
Lol.
glad to see fraudsters getting weeded out. While this is funny, it highlights a more serious issue of how much fraudsters are out there trying to ruin the industry. Fraud directly affects every affiliate and advertiser and needs to get squashed out. Keep up the good fight steve
The video was entertaining and all, but nothing really stands out as a “special bull shit detector.” This all seems like some pretty basic fraud detection that any decent network would do. I’m sure C2M is good and all but don’t really seem a reason to position them as some super duper fraud detecting expert based off of this video. Just seems like common sense things done verifying the info provided on the app. Just my 2 cents.
lol, hilarious – I love this guy.
Ha this kid isn’t beating a fraudster.
He just expects everyone to know the game as well as he does.

Fraudster ? Really Steve? This girl sounded like she honestly didn’t know what she was doing and was trying to get into a network.
Fraudster? I don’t think so.
You really need to get off your high horse man.. did you know everything you needed to know when you first got in the game? Probably not.
Remember you were once where she was at.
Don’t let the money get to your head.
Let’s hope that when the FEDS knock on your door they don’t create a video on how you scammed Millions of Consumers with all the SHADY FREE trial offers. Is that not taking advantage of consumers?
