Matt Cutts of Google: SEO Is Good

Matt Cutts, the guy who determines what SEO spam is, what blackhat and white hat, and can basically ban your site from Google has been nice enough to share the following video which basically says that he really loves SEO. In a few words, he says that people are better than technology and SEO does a lot of great things including helping people discover new and great content. He of course points out that there are SEO firms that do things that Google does not like and goes way over the line. It’s a great watch in order to know the mind of the guy who can determine your ranking and success on Google.

  1. Its good to know Cutts is not anit-SEO. We just launched our Coin Dealer
blog and are looking at getting it optimized but need to know what SEO’s can and cannot do.

  2. Just watched Matt Cutts video – thanks for the link, Pace. If you just use common sense, the end goal for Google is revenue – returning relevant results helps everyone; the user, the site owner and Google. I know I hate it when I click on a link from a Google query that leads me to a spam site.

  3. I’m just curious as to why everyone is talking about this video now? It was posted back over 2 months back in August.

  4. It’s good to know that Google doesn’t consider SEO as a spam. Personally, i think they just want to provide better and accurate results to their users. They are after accuracy and relevancy. Watching the video, it made me realized that Google loves SEO but detest Black hat techniques.

  5. Good SEO is like avoiding taxes. Black hat SEO is like evading taxes. There’s a difference. SEO is working within the rules of the system.

  6. It is really frustrating at time to listen to what Matt Cutts says and what is actually true. In many respects, it is almost like his role is to just cause confusion and misinform anyone marketing a site as to what Google wants and how things work out on Google. Hopefully, their recent decision to encrypt search referers will not be the end of SEO as we know it…

  7. Good video and most points are basic stuff. No need to pay an SEO. You can learn this stuff on your own. Now if time is a factor than an SEO expert or company can be beneficial to save you some time. Thanks for the informative post.

  8. Your blog is very informative. Thanks Pace for sharing the video of Matt Cutts with regards on the “Does Google consider SEO as a Spam”. It help me realize how to use SEO for getting more traffic on my website.

  9. Very nice video .. i also see many peoples get alexa rank very quickly but they dont have rank in google so how do get more rank in google any suggestion please i have same case with me im improving my alexa rank but dont have good rank in google ??

  10. Frankly speaking; Today white hat SEO is tomorrow’s Black hat SEO … :-)

that being Said; there are some basic tactics that have remained unchanged and unscathed :-)

  11. Thanks for the information Pace. I have to agree with some of the others who commented, it’s nice to know Google is anti-SEO.

  12. Thanks for posting this Matt Cutts vid Pace. Truly a must-watch! True enough, Google does not consider SEO as spam but as it is, there are a lot of so-called SEO “experts” resort to illegal, black hat practices. Google’s algorithms will improve over time and while they may not be “as smart as people are”, they will be damn near close in shutting out black hat techniques.
