ClickBank B’Slaps JV IM’s Again

As part of ClickBanks continued desire to pretend to clean up their act, they have instituted another policy. Because of all the crap on Clickbank and more important Affiliates Revolt Against Clickbank, they have instituted a policy that will help them collect more money. However, it doesn’t address the issue of continued scams on ClickBank and worse, the fact that affiliates are the ones continually screwed by crappy products. Affiliates still have no way to be compensated when crappy products waste their traffic, or worse have huge charge-backs when they don’t deliver what they said they would. ClickBank still protects the owners of the product and refuses to provide information to anyone about the people behind these products, or to help take legal action short of a court order.

Here’s the announcement.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing high quality products to consumers, ClickBank is adjusting certain fees relating to refund and chargeback rates for ClickBank vendors. These changes will affect a very small number of ClickBank vendors, and will not affect affiliates.

Beginning October 17, 2011, vendor accounts with a refund rate at or above 15% over a rolling 60-day period and/or chargeback rate at or above 1% over a rolling 70-day period may be subject to additional fees or penalties.

To help you avoid fees or penalties, we are adding a clear indicator of your current rolling 60-day refund rate to your Account Home page so you can easily track your refund rate and take action if necessary.

As we begin to implement this new policy in the coming weeks, affected vendors will be contacted individually before any additional fees are applied to their accounts.

    How much are these additional fees though?

    Sounds promising though. Hopefully it gets rid of some of the truly horrible CB products out there.

    May confusion is on the “take action if necessary” part. The first thing that comes to mind for me is that the vendor would shut down the site – completely cutting off affiliate revenue streams – until the rolling 60 days passed to an acceptable level. So, as an affiliate, your links would work some of the time.

    Second point: shouldn’t affiliates be reviewing products/services they back first? It’s a fundamental part of building a solid sales business (which is really all about your ability to make credible recommendations).

    If I get shafted on a product (and, oh yes, it’s happened before from Clickbank and beyond) then there’s no way I’m going to recommend it to my visitors…no matter the promised commission rate. It would just end up looking bad on me as someone who is supposed to be curating the best offers for my hard earned traffic.

    I, like a lot of others, buy a lot of products on cb because I know I can get a refund. Sure a lot of products suck, but with such ez refund access, the line between between suck and not what I expected blurrs. That’s where the problem lies. You all know there are tons of people that buy stuff and then refund the next day, unethical or not, its da interwebz yo!

    I really wish that CB would more to protect the affiliates, because traffic is not cheap, and if your branding your name and your apart of this crappy product guess who get the blame and who get’s blacklisted…. the affilate so in the long run it killing your business, however I do agree with Natasha we should at lease demo our product before we send traffic.

  • Trying to keep my reputation intact, I see it as my duty to review the product before I try to make others buy from my link.

    With Clickbanks refund policy it’s not either a hard or costly thing to do, and the elast you can do in respect of your customers.

      Hi John and Michael, perhaps it’s just me but I would suggest not returning products/services you’ve paid to review as an affiliate for a few reasons:
      - you may biz expense it (ask your bookkeeper or accountant)
      - you may be hurting another affiliate
      - you may be missing out on delayed offers/unannounced bonuses sent out by the merchant (made to help reduce refunds)
